While most monthly prepaid mobile broadband providers offer only 1 plan, there are 3 plans here to serve your mobile internet appetite. Unfortunately they’ve done away with their unlimited mobile broadband plan but still offer 10 GB plans (twice the amount of regular carriers)..

Bon apetite.

A free broadband card comes with this plan. If you close your account, it must be returned to avoid a $200 replacement fee. There is an option to purchase the device for $99 to avoid this.

$49.99 Activation Fee
$15 Shipping Fee
$99 USB Card Purchase

This plan is available if you decide to purchase the device. Since buying the device is required, there is not lost/damaged/non-returned item fee.

$15 Shipping Fee
$99 Device Purchase

The BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) data plan has a 10 GB limit soft cap. Going over multiple times may result in account cancellation. Broadband cards and MiFi’s originally from Sprint may be used but not 4G devices or cell phones.

5 GB Plan

At a glance, Millenicom’s 5 Gigabyte plan is a cut above the industry standard 5 GB plan. Like most postpaid providers, you can get a free broadband card. There is, however, a string attached here.

The ‘free broadband card’ is actually a leased broadband card that’ll cost you $200 if you don’t return it after closing up shop with Millenicom. One work around is to buy the device outright for $99.99. By doing so, you eliminate the $200 replacement fee.

Additional listed initial costs are a $49.99 activation fee and a $15 shipping fee (for equipment). After doing some quick math, getting started should cost you about $65 if leasing and $165 if owning.

Not quite.

Since Millenicom is prepaid mobile broadband, you’ll pay a pro-rated amount for the month you sign up and the upcoming month’s charges. To give you a more accurate picture, your initial payment could look something like this if started halfway through month:

Example of First Month’s Bill (Paid Upfront):

Charges Leasing Equipment
5 GB Plan Prorated (This Month) $30
5 GB Plan (Next Month) $59.99
Setup / Activation Fee $49.99
Equipment $0
Shipping $15
Total $154.98

Following bills would be $59.99. Since funds are automatically withdrawn from whichever credit/debit card you put on file, it’s important to note that each billing cycle begins on the 1st of each month.

10 GB ‘MiFi’ Plan

Millenicom’s 10 GB plan or ‘MiFi’ plan as I call it is exclusive to the MiFi device. Since the MiFi is built specifically to share its connection with up to 5 devices, it only makes sense for it to have a plan with a higher data usage cap.

Besides double the amount of data and a requirement to purchase the device, there isn’t much of a difference between the MiFi 10 GB plan versus the 5 GB regular plan. One small change is a discount on shipping to allow for extra transit time.

Example of First Month’s Bill (Paid Upfront):

Charges Owning Equipment
5 GB Plan Prorated (This Month) $30
5 GB Plan (Next Month) $59.99
Setup / Activation Fee $49.99
Equipment $99.99
Shipping $15
Total $254.97

Following bills would be $59.99. Since funds are automatically withdrawn from whichever credit/debit card you put on file, it’s important to note that each billing cycle begins on the 1st of each month.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Mobile Broadband Plan

The BYOD mobile broadband plan is identical to the 10 GB plan with the exception of the $100 equipment fee since you bring your own device. Millenicom also reiterates that the 10 GB cap limit is a soft cap. Going over the limit can result in account cancellation. Unlike before, they no longer carry an unlimited mobile broadband plan.

Once you’re okay with a higher first bill (see the example below), Millenicom promises smooth predictable sailing afterwards.

Example of First Month’s Bill (Paid Upfront):

Charges Owning Equipment
5 GB Plan Prorated (This Month) $30
5 GB Plan (Next Month) $69.99
Setup / Activation Fee $49.99
Equipment $0
Shipping $15
Total $149.98

Following bills would be $69.99. Since funds are automatically withdrawn from whichever credit/debit card you put on file, it’s important to note that each billing cycle begins on the 1st of each month.

Now that you’ve got a realistic idea of how much Millenicom mobile broadband plans will cost to startup, it won’t mean much if you don’t have the mobile broadband speed & 3G coverage where you need it.
