They’re plenty reasons for wanting to share mobile broadband.

Whether it’s just getting another laptop online, juicing up your Playstation 3 with some much needed internet or jamming on Xbox Live, you need to get internet from point A to point B.

While the 1st steps are practically identical I’ve grabbed the best tutorials around, put together screenshots and thrown in videos to show you how to share mobile broadband with your Xbox 360 using a laptop, PC or Mac.

Share Mobile Broadband - Xbox 360

This tutorial shows how to share mobile broadband with an Xbox 360 to Xbox Live with a 3G connection via an Ethernet cable. It goes without saying that you’ll at least need: A 3G connection, a PC or laptop & an Ethernet cable along with a little patience.

1. Click on Start Button

3. (search for Network) click on Network and Sharing Center

4. Under tasks, click on Manage Network Connections (not to be confused with manage wireless networks)

5. Locate your mobile broadband adapter’s connection and ‘right click’ it

6. Click Properties

7. Click on the Sharing Tab

8. Check the box “Allow other users to connect through this computer’s connection”

9. There should be a drop down box that lets you select the Local Area Connection (it will appear in the ‘home networking connection’ box below that has wireless network connection. Click ok twice (until boxes are gone).

10. To start using the connection you’ll need to close your mobile broadband connection and then restart it.

11. Plug the ethernet cable in your Xbox 360

12. That’s it. Now It’s Xbox setup time.

On your Xbox, go to “Settings” and select “System Settings”.

14. Under “System Settings” select Network Settings”.

15. Under Network Settings” select “Configure Network”.

16. Since you’re using the Ethernet cable you should see the following notice pop up. Hit ok.

17. When the “Configure Network” screen pops up with the “basic settings”, setup your info to be automatic (the same as your 3G mobile broadband connection’s default setting) :

18. Test out your connection and you should be good to go.

What To Do If It Doesn’t Work

Then you may have to set your IP settings on the device and your Xbox 360 manually. Here’s how to do it:

1. Locate your mobile broadband adapter’s connection and ‘right click’ it (we got here using the first 5 steps above)

2. Click Properties

3. Instead of going to the ‘Sharing’ tab as we did previously, we’ll go to the “Networking” tab. Once selected, click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and make sure there’s a check mark in the box. Then click on “Properties”.

4. Next, select “Use the following IP address” & “Use the following DNS server addresses”. Fill in with the following:

IP Address: 10.0.0.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

DNS Settings: Manual

Primary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1

Secondary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1

5. After accepting the changes (via “Ok”), go back to “Configure Network” on your Xbox 360 (to get there, start at step 13). You’ll need to manually configure the settings as follows:

IP Settings: Manual

IP Address: 10.0.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

Gateway: 10.0.0.1

DNS Settings: Manual

Primary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1

Secondary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1

6. That should do the trick. Test out your connection and you should be good to go.

3G Mac Setup (Xbox 360)

This tutorial shows how to share mobile broadband with an Xbox 360 to Xbox Live with a 3G connection via an Ethernet cable. It goes without saying that you’ll at least need: A 3G connection, a Mac (iMac or MacBook) & an Ethernet cable along with a little patience.

1. Start your mobile broadband connection (pictured below is the Sprint Smartview connection, while your manager may differ depending on your carrier, it’s no biggie).

2. Click on System Preferences and then click ‘Network’ under ‘Internet & Network’ settings.

3. Next, select your mobile broadband connection and ensure that it’s connected. After that, select the ethernet connection.

4. Click the ‘Configure’ and select ‘Using DHCP with manual address’. Set the IP Address to 10.0.0.1

5. Hit the back button (upper left corner) and then select ‘sharing’ under ‘Internet & Network’ settings.

6. Highlight ‘Internet Sharing’ in the left column (check if it’s not already checked to enable it after choosing your settings in the next step).

7. Choose how you’d like to share your connection (i.e. AirPort for wireless, Ethernet for wired). For this tutorial, it will be Ethernet.

8. That’s it. Now It’s Xbox setup time.

9. On your Xbox, go to “Settings” and select “System Settings”.

    It works but after I turn my laptop off for a while and go eat or whatever…. come back and turn it on then I plug the ethernet cord back in and my laptop shows on the local area connection shows its unplugged
