Verizon Wireless Coverage

The Facts
Verizon’s mobile broadband network rivals Sprint (the largest mobile broadband network). Add the fact that they’re the most reliable and you have a winner.

At one point, Verizon Wireless Coverage was being advertised as ‘the largest mobile broadband network’ based on how many millions of people it reached.

It was pretty obvious they were going after the claim that Sprint had made for quite some time.

To further push home that point, they even launched the only 3G coverage map by a carrier that compared their coverage to other (AT&T and Sprint).
Since then, not only have those ‘largest network’ ads disappeared, but the comparative coverage of Sprint has been completely removed.

I’ll let you draw your own conclusions…don’t worry, I’ll wait.

My thoughts exactly.

Nevertheless, Verizon Wireless Coverage for mobile broadband is advertised as covering “260 million people in 258 major metropolitan areas and 244 primary airports in the United States”. While there is no claim of being the largest, that’s nothing to laugh or scoff at. You will have Verizon Wireless coverage is most places.

Of course, this is pretty abstract for you and me. The only way to get a firm handle on this is to see what 3G coverage will be like where you’ll be using it. We’ve got just the thing. Below is the Verizon Wireless Coverage Locator. You can throw in your street address and check what coverage will be like where you live, work and play. If it doesn’t show up below, you can get to it here.

The Fine Print

According to Verizon:

“These Coverage Locator maps are not a guarantee of coverage and may contain areas with no service. The maps reflect a depiction of predicted and approximate wireless coverage. The coverage areas shown do not guarantee service availability, and may include locations with limited or no coverage.

Even within a coverage area, there are many factors, including customer’s equipment, terrain, proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather that may impact service. An all-digital device will not operate or be able to make 911 calls when digital service is not available.

The Extended Enhanced Services Coverage Areas include networks run by other carriers; some of the coverage depicted is based on their information and public sources, and we cannot ensure its accuracy”.

To cut a long story short, just because we say it works there, it might not. That’s the disclaimer in one line. There are no guarantees in life and you will only frustrate yourself looking for one. You will be disappointed. That’s a guarantee (how’s that for irony?).

A Quick Word on International Coverage

While we covered Verizon Wireless Coverage in the United States, they have partnerships with many carriers throughout the world to provide mobile broadband in many places. Due to the level of detail needed to cover that, we’ll go through that on a whole separate page. Here’s where you can learn about International Wireless Broadband.
