In an interesting shift from last year, Event Radio Rentals now offers two services:
- Mobile Broadband Rental
- Prepaid Mobile Broadband (called AirCards on Demand)
What’s the difference?
With mobile broadband rental, you to rent a broadband card without having to purchase it. On the other hand, with prepaid mobile broadband you own the broadband card or device and purchase ‘credit’ for use when needed. As you might expect, there are different pricing structures for each.
Event Radio Rentals Pricing (Mobile Broadband Rental)
Unlike other mobile broadband rental providers, Event Radio Rentals’ pricing & terms of service change based on which of the 4 broadband devices you’re renting (from cheapest to most expensive):
All plans unless stated otherwise have a data cap (explained below). Also, theft and loss protection can be added for $1.95 per day. Without it, you’ll be liable for the full price of the broadband card.

3G Netbook Plan & Pricing
- 7 day min $80.00
- 8-10 days $108.00
- 11-14 days $140.00
- 15-21 days $188.30
- 22-30 days $236.00
The minimum rental period of a netbook is 7 days as opposed to 3 days for all other devices. Strangely enough, there are no mentioned stipulations on data caps for using it. When in doubt, one could simply follow their blanket data cap policy.
All The Above Rental Plans Have Data Caps
Every mobile broadband rental plan listed has a data cap limitations:
- Renter will be allowed an average of two (2) GB of data (combined upload and download) for each seven (7) days of rental.
- Data limits for Renters using the service for greater than or less than a seven (7) day period will be charged a prorated amount based on two (2) GB for each week of service.
- Renters using data in excess of the allocated amount will be charged $.10 (cents) for each megabyte of data upload and download over the allowance.
In other words, you have a 2 GB cap each week (or about 292 MB per day). If you go over, it’s $0.10/MB (or $102.40 per GB).
The only exception is the U300 4G WiMAX card. When in 4G coverage areas, data is unlimited.
Editor’s Note: There’s something slightly off-putting about the $0.10/MB overage charge. It’s double the amount that Sprint, Verizon or AT&T charges. Perhaps it has yet to be updated. If not, then making a profit off overages is border-line shady.
Event Radio Rentals Pricing (Prepaid Mobile Broadband)
With Event Radio Rentals prepaid mobile broadband, you’ve got two options:
- Purchase a Broadband Card
- Activate Your Own Broadband Card or Device (AirCards on Demand)
Purchasing a Broadband Card
There are two broadband cards (the Sprint U760 and Verizon UM150) available for purchase. Since both cost $99 and include 3 free days of activation, it’s boils down to your preference for Sprint or Verizon mobile broadband networks.
As for amount you’ll pay for the actual rental? It’s the same as their AirCards on Demand service.
While data caps still do apply here, you’ll only get 1 GB per week (146 MB/day) instead of the original 2 GB each week. As before, overage charges are set at $0.10 per MB (or $102/GB).
Activating Your Own Device (AirCards on Demand)
Many of our clients bought their own aircard but were then stuck paying $60.00 a month or more for two years for a card they hardly ever used.
Event Radio Rentals solution to this problem was Aircards on Demand.
You must already be in possession of a deactivated aircard from Sprint, Verizon or a Gobi enabled laptop. All you do is supply us the ESN number and your ready to go.
Most prepaid mobile broadband providers fall into the category of regular use or occasional use. Event Radio Rentals falls into latter. There is one distinct difference between prepaid mobile broadband occasional use providers and Event Radio Rentals:
While other prepaid providers have a 1GB cap for 60 days, Event Radio Rentals has a 1 GB cap for each week. Effectively, you get a lot more data for the same period of time. This will be a solid solution for those who need mobile broadband occasionally but use it heavily in a short space of time.
Here’s how much it’ll cost you:
