Slingshot 3G Coverage

Like our problem in reviewing their mobile broadband speed, we also have the same issue in talking about their 3G coverage.

Working with the same vague “High-Speed Wireless Internet service is made possible by using the constantly expanding network of third generation (3G) cellular telephone towers throughout the USA”, we have a general idea that there coverage will be similar to either Sprint, Verizon or AT&T.

While we could go into the ins and outs of each, we’ve already done that extensively:

If you’ve read lesson 2 of Mobile Broadband Buyer’s Guide, you already know that Sprint has the best coverage, followed closely by Verizon and then AT&T.

The problem here is that we don’t know which one they use. It can’t be all three because AT&T’s GSM network technology isn’t compatible with Verizon and Sprint’s CDMA technology.

For the same reason, Sprint and Verizon phones won’t work on AT&T or T-Mobile networks. However, you can get an unlocked AT&T iPhone and get it to work on T-Mobile’s network (since they’re both GSM).

Nonetheless, going on about underlying technologies won’t solve our basic issue here. Until they issue some more updates (with hopefully more information), we won’t really know.

Let’s see for now what information we can scrape together about Slingshot AirCards & Broadband Cards.
